Dr Robert Jones, a researcher, discovered a very high correlation between root canals and breast cancer. He performed a five year study of 300 breast cancer patients which showed that 93% of the women with breast cancer had root canals. Seven percent had other dental issues. An interesting note was that tumors, in most cases, manifested on the same side of the body as the root canal(s) or where dental restoration we performed. The new filling made from calcium that stops your face looking old
Bone loss can also cause the gum line to collapse, which can make the face appear narrower, sunken and older.
A gel ‘filling’ made from calcium could prevent complications after having your teeth extracted. The filling is injected into the socket immediately after a tooth is removed to encourage the growth of new bone.
This prevents the surrounding jawbone weakening and shrinking away — a common problem when a tooth has been removed.
It can lead to problems with biting and chewing as well as making it more difficult for future dental work, such as implants or bridges, which require a good bony foundation..UK NEWS

Floss or Brush First?
Is it better to floss before or after brushing teeth?
Great question. Alas, surprisingly few studies address it directly. Based on existing evidence, flossing first isn’t necessarily better for oral health than the other way around.
Still, dentists have opinions on the matter. Dr. Edmond R. Hewlett, a spokesman for the American Dental Association and a professor of restorative dentistry at the University of California, Los Angeles, recommends flossing first. His rationale? Get the unpleasant task out of the way to avoid the temptation to not do it. “Let’s face human nature, if you’re going to skip one, which one will you skip?” he said. NEWSLINK

Not flossing can reduce your lifespan
Flossing every day is so crucial to health that it’s one of the questions included in the Living to 100 Life Expectancy Calculator. The tool uses parameters like diet, exercise, and health habits to determine an approximate age of death. Thomas Perls, the creator of the calculator and an attending geriatrician at Boston Medical Centre and professor at the Boston University School of Medicine, said only one question on the quiz addresses flossing, but the calculator estimates that this ‘yes or no’ could be worth up to one year of life. Though it’s difficult to quantify health habits in terms of how many years of life they add, doctors and dentists alike assert that flossing is essential for good dental health – and dental health has long been tied to overall physical health as well. Teeth can be regrown
One group of researchers drilled holes in the teeth of rats, then directed low-level lasers into these holes. By exposing the pulp within the tooth to the pulses of light, scientists were able to program the stem cells within the pulp to rebuild lost dentine, thereby regenerating the tooth. If this research can be replicated in humans, it may serve as the first non-invasive way to repair teeth, allowing people to regenerate their smile without extensive dental work [source: Arany et al].
A separate study developed hydrogels, made from peptides, proteins and drugs, which they injected into the pulp beneath teeth. These hydrogels are designed to encourage stem cells to bring teeth back to life, eliminating the need for painful root canals. Even better, the hydrogel dissolves after the tooth is regenerated, leaving nothing behind that could harm the body or interfere with normal oral health [source: Williams]. MORE HERE

Dr Ketan Desai, who is facing corruption charges, could head WMA
The World Medical Association, which is supposed to encourage high ethical standards among doctors, is in turmoil over its incoming president, Dr Ketan Desai, of India.
Dr Desai, a 58-year-old urologist, is fighting allegations that he corruptly conspired to lobby to allow a medical school to add more students. India’s legal system often works at a glacial pace, so charges which were brought in 2009 and 2010 are unlikely to be resolved by 2016, when he is scheduled to take office.

Dental implants are NOT for Ever
Dental implants – though expensive – are not forever, according to Dr. Keren Shemtov-Yona, who did a master’s thesis on the subject at Haifa’s Technion-Israel Institute of Technology and Rambam Medical Center. Most implants, she found, develop microscopic cracks and defects over the years.
In one experiment, they collected hundreds of implanted teeth at four dental clinics around the country that had to be removed due to the receding of the jawbone. The artificial teeth and their anchors looked whole, but 62 percent were found under an electronic scanner to have cracks and other defects. MORE HERE
