Dental college blackmailer nabbed by police
Police reported to have recovered Rs 1 crore from the possession of Harshavardhan following a raid conducted on the hotel where he stayed.
According to sources, Harsha had been demanding the management representatives of a dental college located near Vijayawada to pay Rs 5 crore or face the adverse telecast in their news channel.

DCI asks Dental colleges to send salary slips/statements of faculty
Notice :A) The DCI inspections of the institutions can be conducted at regular intervals and can be interspaced with surprise inspections to check temporary recruitment of Doctors in the private dental colleges. B) Salary Slips of the teaching staff can be checked at the time of inspection and colleges may be advised to send the salary statements of the faculty once in a year to DCI to prevent appointment of any part-time faculty. C) During inspections, the faculty’s diary can be cross-checked so that it can be verified as to who are the full time/part time faculty members. D) Many of the colleges have not implemented the biometric attendance system and the same may be implemented at all colleges, the logs of which can be used by the Council during the inspections. LINK
Admission racket busted
The racket came to light after some parents complained to ICARE authorities about some youths from outside the state taking money from them in lieu of admission to the MBBS or Bachelor of Dental Sciences courses. Among them was retired schoolteacher Samir Maity who lives in Moyna, East Midnapore. Maity alleged that some youths took several lakhs from him after promising to get his daughter admitted to the medical college’s MBBS course.

Dentists, orthodontists are among best-paying jobs of 2014
September 4, 2014 — Orthodontists and dentists are among the top five best-paying jobs in the U.S. this year, according to a new ranking by CareerCast.
Topping the list are surgeons, with average annual incomes of $233,150, according to CareerCast, which gathered data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, trade associations, and its own jobs report. Orthodontists came in fourth, with annual average salaries of $149,310; dentists were next, with average incomes of $146,340. LINK

Depression drug linked with dental implant failure
Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), the most widely used drugs for the treatment of depression, reduce bone formation and increase the risk of bone fracture, according to a new study in the Journal of Dental Research (September 3, 2014).
Canadian researchers investigated the association between SSRIs and the risk of failures in osseointegrated implants, as osseointegration is influenced by bone metabolism. Their study was published by the International and American Associations for Dental Research (IADR/AADR). LINK

A 14-year-old Iraqi boy with Crouzon syndrome, a congenital disorder, recently underwent a major surgery at Balaji Dental and Craniofacial Hospital in the city.
Due to fusion of the facial bones from birth, Mustafa Awad’s eyeballs had compressed and he had a facial deformity.
