Young dentist hangs herself
A dentist ended her life in her house in Bharuch, Gujraj on Friday. Dr Rashmi Kharche (27) was working in a leading multi-specialty hospital in the town. Her husband Dr Sachin Kharche was also working in the same hospital as an orthopaedic surgeon.
When he returned home at Narayan Chambers on station road in the afternoon, he found his wife hanging from the ceiling fan, police said. The couple had just returned from their hometown Malkapur village in Maharashtra. MORE HERE

Dog days for dental colleges- Dental college seats fall vacant
Students have given professional courses the royal snub this year. A significant 30% of the total 1.11 lakh seats in professional courses in engineering, medical/dental and paramedical, MBA, MCA and pharmacy colleges remained vacant.
Seats have remained vacant in dental colleges this year. This because besides MBBS, students prefer to take admission in BAMS, BHMS courses as they are not able to afford the fees of self-financed dental colleges..Moreover, salaries offered to dentists are low. “After passing out, students are offered a salary of Rs 8,000. Indian Ortho soc in legal tangle
IOS -one of the oldest specialty society is facing odds, several legal cases are expected to be files acc to sources. One of the root cause is “RE registration of this society” sometime back at Davengere and there are questions regarding if procedures were followed for this change from Vellore to Davengere and WHY it was DONE at all. IN words of one of the EC members of this soc “On another note I must say that the biggest crime in history of IOS was registration at Davangere”.
Some members have been expelled by IOS for conducting ortho courses for dentists, these members are now saying that they are NOT members of Davengere IOS and hence how they can be expelled by this soc. Election of president is under arbitration and may go to court as well.

Child death in dental clinic- parents sentenced
Dentist had to remove the girl’s carious primary teeth under general anaesthetic because her parents had never taken her to the dentist. During the surgery, she suffered a lung spasm and died.
Parents of a 4-year-old girl were sentenced for negligence at an Austrian court.
The mother was sentenced to five months’ and the father to seven months’ imprisonment, but the defendants still have the right to appeal the decision. NEWSLINK

UK GPs ‘under pressure from dental patients’
Patients are going to their GP with concerns over their oral health when they should be going to their dentist, a poll suggests.
It found 87% of 1,000 GPs surveyed by ComRes, felt under pressure from the number of patients with worries including toothaches or ulcers.

Patna Govt dental college doesn’t have a full-time principal. Patna Medical College and Hospital principal Dr (capt) N P Yadav holds the additional charge of PDC.
