According to the news in Dainik Bhaskar of 15 Nov(Delhi) CBI grilled Dr Mazumar for many hours in relation to the raids on Coimbatore dental college earlier this year..asking DCI role in that affair.CBI is also examining DCI documents and has asked WHY that college was given permission for 100 despite NOT having facitlies.. Mangalore professor in plagiarism row- Plagiarism- Dental college in NEWS again

Yet another Mangalore-based professor has been caught in a plagiarism row, which appears to be a year old.
An email to the Dental Council of India (DCI) and Karnataka State Dental Council (KSDC) has sought reasons for delay in initiating action against Prof Amitha Mahesh Hegde, co-author of ‘Understanding and management of special child in Pediatric Dentistry’, which was allegedly plagiarised from Wikipedia.
The email was reportedly signed by the alumni and postgraduate students of the Pedodontia Department in A B Shetty Institute of Dental Sciences (ABSIDS).…EXPRESS NEWS

GDC students forced to buy materials for patients
The students claimed that they had been spending around Rs. 600 per patient and over Rs.
4,000 a month on purchase of dental restorative and denture making materials for the
treatment of patients, as the authorities remained helpless in making these materials available to

Dentist arrested for torture
Jagriti Singh is a dental surgeon at RML hospital, she is wife of BSP MP Dhananjay Singh. While Singh has been arrested for destruction of evidence Jagriti faces charges of murder and torture of their 35-year-old maid from Kolkata. The couple had also employed another minor domestic help for more than ten months, a crime that attracts rigorous punishment under Juvenile Justice Act. Nursery toothbrushing saves millions
A scheme to encourage nursery children to brush their teeth has saved more than £6m in dental costs, according to a new study.
Childsmile involves staff at all Scottish nurseries offering free supervised toothbrushing every day.
Glasgow researchers found that the scheme had reduced the cost of treating dental disease in five-year-olds by more than half between 2001 and 2010. BBC NEWS

‘Insurance cover must for dental implants’
“Most of the material and machinery used in dentistry is imported from Germany and the United States due to which patients have to pay more for the implant, or treatment of cancer or dental ailments,” Mathur said.
The society is hopeful that the government would allow health insurance to cover dental problems as the materials imported are expensive and the custom duty is also high. If prosthodontic treatment is covered under health insurance, it will be give much-needed respite to middle class patients. TOI NEWS

Drug May Guard Against Periodontitis, Related Chronic Diseases
A drug currently used to treat intestinal worms could protect people from periodontitis, an advanced gum disease, which untreated can erode the structures — including bone — that hold the teeth in the jaw. The research was published ahead of print in Antimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy.
It showed that Oxantel disrupted the growth of polymicrobial biofilms containing P. gingivalis, Tannerella forsythia, and Treponema denticola, a typical composition of periodontal biofilms...MORE HERE

Diagnose diabetes from breath
On World Diabetes Day, which is being celebrated today, researchers from the U.S. have presented a novel device that uses nanotechnology to detect acetone, an organic compound that can be found in blood and urine, which has been linked to blood-glucose levels in the breath of diabetics. The scientists hope that their invention will help patients monitor their levels more easily. LINK

U.S-signed treaty ‘upholds use of amalgam’
Washington— The Association commended public health provisions in a global mercury treaty that “upholds the use of dental amalgam, a durable, safe, effective cavity-filling material.” The United States signed and offered acceptance documents Nov. 6, joining other nations in moving the legally binding treaty forward.
