Deadly selfie- Medical student dies
A 23-year-old Medical student plunged to her death while trying to take a selfie in Seville in Spain. Sylwia Rajchel slipped while taking a self-portrait on the ledge of the Puente de Triana bridge, media reports said. Costly mobile stolen from dental clinic
Navi Mumbai: The Nerul police are searching for a 26-year-old youth, who posed as a handicapped person at a dental clinic of Dr Sharmishtha Jha in sector 10 and stole a mobile worth Rs 50,000 on Tuesday. The incident took place at Goodwill Arcade opposite Nerul railway station. Standards to dental clinic outlined
KOCHI: Faced with criticism about poor standards in dental clinics, the Kerala chapter of IDA has developed standards for all the clinics in the state. With a dentist in almost every street in the state, the IDA proposed to give accreditation to all those who meet the said standards at a later stage.
The state has about 20,000 dentists in the state and the dentist to patient ratio in the state is 1:3500, while the WHO requirement is 1:7500. There are more than 20,000 plus registered dentists in the state. TOI NEWS

FDI expected in Dental sector
The Union Cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, today gave its approval to amend the existing Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) policy in the Pharmaceutical Sector to create carve out for medical devices. India has achieved an eminent global position in pharma sector. However, same has not been replicated in the medical devices (dental included) industry. 1. Resolving the unemployment issue of senior citizens in dentistry.
2. Seal the promotions/recruitment options of the fresh and middle cadres
3. More of Firing and less of Hiring, in the already bleak prospects.
4. Employer can ‘dictate’ salary/service terms and conditions(one-sided)
5. Providing cheap manpower to ‘corporates and institutions’(“Industry”?)
6. May lead to depression, distress and total ‘sell-out’ of profession ?
It has to be doubted, whose welfare and purpose the DCI is interested in ? Manipulating the ‘unemployment’ situation to further the ‘industry” to doom ?
