State pushes for dental health, provides FREE dentures
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Saturday launched a scheme called Dantha Bhagya to distribute free dentures to those below poverty line who are more than 60 years old and have lost their teeth.
State health minister U T Khader said a comprehensive oral health policy would be put in place soon, with dentists being recruited and equipment being bought for all government hospitals. MORE HERE

Women are more likely to have complications getting their wisdom teeth out than getting an abortion, according to a study in the journal Obstetrics & Gynecology.
Researchers from the University of California, San Francisco studied 54,911 abortions performed between 2009 and 2010 through Medi-Cal, California’s health insurance for low-income residents. They also studied any health care these women received up to six weeks after their abortion. NY Times LINK

DCI moves to update national Dentists register
DCI maintains a register of dentists to be known as the Indian Dentists Register and consisting of the entries in all the State registers of Dentists, and as per section 18(2) of the Dentists Act, 1948. State councils have not been provides regular updates. At the 11th hour, BDS exams postponed for EC member’s college
Indore : A day before its commencement, the Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya postponed BDS first profession exams reportedly for a college owned by Suresh Bhadoria, who is an executive council member of the university. The exams would now be held from December 17.
Not disclosed to the students, the reason for postponement of exams was Index Dental College’s failure (owned by Bhadoria) to submit list of students verified by Department of Medical Education (DME). NEWSLINK

Fashion show to promote orthodontics
The Bombay Orthodontic Study Group today announced that it will hold a ‘braces fashion show’ and treat orphans as part of the “Smile Torch” project to create public awareness about orthodontics.
“The Smile Torch will travel to 24 cities in India, covering each city for two weeks, during which events will be held to educate people about orthodontics,” Group Convenor Dr Prashant Dhole said. MORE HERE

MCI has come out with quantum of punishment for docs taking bribes from pharma companies.
MCI has spelt out the quantum of punishment for doctors taking bribe from pharmaceutical companies. The amendments to the Indian Medical Council (Professional Conduct, Etiquette and Ethics) Regulations, 2002 have been passed by the MCI’s general body as well as the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
