New Delhi, Sep 29 (IANS) Health Minister Harsh Vardhan Monday promised a “radical” transformation in regulatory bodies like the medical and the dental councils of India.Addressing a press conference on the 100 days’ working of the health ministry, he said: “We want to take transparency to the highest level. About medical and dental councils, there is a perception that they are not very transparent.”He said: “So, we are studying and discussing their structure. There will be radical change and transformation in their structure.”He added: “We are objectively studying these issues and will try and address them. I have told all medical organisations to actively take action against their erring members.” LINK

Bomb making materials recovered from doc’s house
Bomb making materials have been recovered after an explosion from the house of a quack at Pokaria in Pakur district of Jharkhand, the police said today.
The police said the quack dentist A Hamid, who has a clinic in Ganpur village, suffered injuries in the explosion that took place on Wednesday night.
But he managed to flee before the villagers and police led by the officer-in-charge of Pokaria police station, Rajeshwar Paswan reached the spot. NEWSLINK
New materials for better, stronger and cheaper dental implants
A ceramic polymer blend has been developed by researchers to reduce costs of dental implants. “By optimizing the geometry and consistency of the implants we can ensure that they remain in place longer, but with a lower cost than the titanium implant,” said the project collaborator in charge of industrial design. A Dental Council of India (DCI) circular stated, “It is understood that the college authorities of all the Dental Colleges will ensure that the consumption of alcohol, drug, tobacco, gutkha, and smoking will be prohibited in college premises, hospital, hostel and canteen. It will be appreciated that the freshly admitted dental students will furnish an affidavit stating that they will not indulge in the consumption of alcohol, drug, tobacco, gutkha, and smoking in college, hospital, hostel, canteen premises.” LINK
No age limit to implant treatment
ROME, Italy: There are few implant studies available on the 60+ generation and, owing to decreased oral and overall health in old age, elderly patients are usually considered a high-risk group for dental implants. During a scientific session at the European Association for Osseointegration (EAO) congress in Rome last week, distinguished experts helped clarify the question of whether there is an age limit to implant treatment.
Prof. Frauke Müller said there is no evidence of an inferior survival rate of dental implants in this age group. Moreover, it has been shown that dental implants significantly improve the social life of elderly patients. ..MORE
