Dental student killed in road accident
On NH-33 under the mufassil police station limits Abhishek Kumar, a student of Hazaribag Dental College and Sciences at Demotand was returning to college from Sheikhpura in Bihar along with his friend Roshan Chaturvedi of Munger on his bike when a speeding truck rammed into it, killing Abhishek on the spot. The truck could not be identified as the driver managed to escape from the spot. Police picked up the injured Roshan and admitted him to Hazaribag sadar hospital. NEWSLINK
Vashi Dentist penalized Rs 15000 for wrong crowns by consumer forum
For providing poor dental treatment to his patient, a Vashi-based dentist-Dr Anand Krushnamurti was recently penalised by the additional Thane district consumer dispute redressal forum recently. The dentist has been told to pay Rs10,000 for causing the complainant mental agony. The forum has also asked him to pay an additional amount of Rs5,000 towards the complainant’s litigation cost. Swapping of MDS seats, High court fines dental college
Bangalore: The High Court of Karnataka has ordered Vokkaligara Sangha Dental College to pay a penalty of Rs 2 lakh for allowing two students to swap courses at the time of admission in breach of rules and regulations. The court stated that the college, Vokkaligara Sangha Dental College and Hospital in VV Puram, was being fined in “the interest of academic discipline” and as a deterrent. New fuel cell based entirely on human saliva that can produce ‘tiny but sufficient’ amounts of power to run chip-based applications, potentially opening the door implantable medical devices.
Researchers from King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) in Saudi Arabia, and Penn State University published a paper in Nature Magazine showcasing their work on a saliva powered microbial fuel cell. According to the researchers, he fingernail-sized fuel cell is capable of powering lab-on-a-chip diagnostic devices in rural settings or battlefields with the 1 microwatt of power it generates. UK dentist struck off for misconduct
A dentist who refused to give a patient her dental records has been struck off by the General Dental Council for misconduct.
Nigel Moss, who practised at Hearsall House in Coventry, did not examine the patient properly and lied about treatment records, the hearing heard.
Mr Moss had been suspended in 2012 for similar misconduct, but was allowed back on the register in December 2013. BBC NEWS
Dental routine of early man revealed
Scientists recently found new evidence that ancient Chinese, living 300,000 to 400,000 years ago, would pick their teeth.
It may be the earliest evidence of tooth-picking among humans in eastern Asia.
Scientists from China, Spain and the United States used binocular microscopes and scanning electron microscopes to examine the surfaces of seven fossilized human teeth unearthed in Yiyuan county in Shandong province, on which they found marks left by tooth-picking.
The article was published by Quaternary International, a peer-reviewed scientific journal on Quaternary science, in late March. NEWSLINK
