Too many dentist in Australia
Australian Dental Association last month wrote to Education Minister Christopher Pyne asking for dental programs to be removed..
ADA’s own survey had found that three in five graduating dentists experienced difficulty in obtaining work, and that 28 per cent were working less than 24 hours a week because they could not get more hours.
Australia had just five dental schools for decades. But since 2005, four new dental schools have opened at Griffith, La Trobe, James Cook and Charles Sturt universities. MORE HERE
3D printing reshapes patient’s face- UK
A survivor of a serious motorbike accident has had pioneering surgery to reconstruct his face using a series of 3D printed parts.
Stephen Power, from Cardiff, is thought to be one of the first trauma patients in the world to have 3D printing used at every stage of the procedure.
Doctors at Morriston Hospital, Swansea, had to break his cheekbones again before rebuilding his face. Mr Power said the operation had been “life-changing”.
The UK has become one of the world’s pioneers in using 3D technology in surgery, with advances also being made by teams in London and Newcastle. BBC NEWS
Dual anesthetics preferred by most U.S. dentists
Anesthesia is commonly used by dentists when they want to ensure young patients remain calm during an operation and feel as little pain as possible afterward. Dentist anesthesiologists may use either general or local anesthesia, but some choose to use both with children, despite conflicting research on the combined approach.
90% of responding dentist anesthesiologists prefer the combined approach when treating some or most of their young patients. These respondents said the pairing makes it easier to stabilize the children’s vital signs while decreasing the depth of general anesthesia. MORE HERE

Doctors have been urged to change how they prescribe medicines to stop £300m of drugs being thrown away each year. .. if doctors offered more tailored, personal advice to patients and stopped prescribing large amounts of drugs to cover long periods of time. BBC NEWS

Gingivitis is NEW Silent killer

Fight against oral infection
A U.S. research project has shown that Pichia, a beneficial fungal yeast, inhibits growth of the harmful fungal yeast Candida, which also causes oral thrush. The researchers hope that the findings will contribute to the development of a therapeutic agent to fight the painful mouth infection, as well as other fungal infections. MORE HERE
