Merit student looses MDS seat
The High Court was hearing a plea filed by Dr Pratik Nagdeve who kept waiting for a better course in the counseling rounds but lost out on the stream of his choice. Claiming that he was higher on the merit list, Nagdeve urged the court to order another dentist to swap seats with him. MORE HERE

MSc in Oral Implantology in Germany
The Master’s Degree Program ‘Master of Oral Implantology’ (MOI) has been introduced at the J.W. Goethe University Frankfurt am Main. The program was created in order to offer advanced academic training in the field of oral implantology to dentists from both Germany and abroad.
The MOI is a 2-year modular graduate degree program. As a part-time study program the students will be travelling to Frankfurt 4 times, each time for 7-11 days. The fifth time the students will be in Frankfurt for presenting their thesis.  Admission is going on for 2014 batch HERE

Illegal dentists a cheap option in Canada
The space was clean and tidy and Galyna Shevchenko said it was the best option for her to have her bridgework done.
Turning down $5,000 from her son to go to a licensed dentist, Shevchenko decided to pay $1,000 to have the work done underground — more specifically in the basement of a house somewhere in the Lower Mainland.

Orthodontist does it on a bike
Arnob Gupta who is an orthodontist,  did Ladakh to Kanyakumari in 78 hours on a two-wheeler.
Three weeks ago, this Mumbai-based dentist did it on his favourite bike. Starting from Leh police station on September 16, he reached the finishing point at Kanyakumari on September 19, covering 3850 km with just an eight-hour sleep on the way. FULL STORY

Periodontally integrated implants: Reality or fiction?
The periodontal ligament (PDL) is the natural connection between the tooth root, the alveolar bone and the gingiva. It has several bio-mechanical characteristics that osseo-integrated implants do not have. For example, its flexibility provides a damping effect which protects the enamel from occlusal shocks. Furthermore, the PDL helps to avoid overloading by distributing the masticatory pressure over groups of teeth.

Almost half of people in the UAE wait until they have toothache before visiting the dentist, a new survey of oral health habits has found.

MCI election process to get started
The elected body of the Medical Council of India (MCI) is all set to make a comeback.
Three years after an interim arrangement of the Board of Governors (BoG) was made to run the council, after its former president was allegedly caught taking bribe, the autonomy of the MCI will be restored.
It is learnt that the Union health minister has approved the notification for Constitution of the council, giving a go ahead to start the election process. The notification to this effect will be issued shortly. MORE  HERE

Pancreatic Cancer Could Be Detected In Saliva
Pancreatic cancer is notoriously deadly, in large part because it’s so rarely detected at early stages before it has spread beyond the pancreas. But researchers from the School of Dentistry at the University of California, Los Angeles, have found a potential new way to more easily detect pancreatic cancer: analyzing saliva.
The findings, published in the Journal of Biological Chemistry, show that it’s possible to detect biomarkers for prostate cancer in saliva of mice with the cancer. MORE HERE
