With an unprecedented threat of “zero admission” looming large over all dental colleges in Punjab due to less number of Punjabi candidates scoring eligibility marks in the All India Pre-Medical Entrance Test (AIPMT), the association of private dental colleges has come forward with an unusual offer of ‘sponsoring’ the state government to conduct a separate state-level test for admission in dental colleges.

FKG -microscopic endo training center is funcational in Dubai
FKG inaugurated its Regional Office and Training Centre around 6 months ago in Dubai. What were the reasons for this set up?
I joined the FKG team almost four years ago to build up a new strategy which was to develop FKG Dentaire in the Middle East and Africa Region. When I started this new challenge the FKG Dentaire name was known but the distribution network in the ME-A region was not operating properly with sales being below average compared to other regions. We are pleased to see that in a few years we were able to level up from the few countries where we were represented to over 30 countries today and we continue to increase monthly. MORE HERE

End of drilling and filling
Prof Nigel Pitts, from King’s College London Dental Institute, said: “The way we treat teeth today is not ideal. When we repair a tooth by putting in a filling, that tooth enters a cycle of drilling and refilling as, ultimately, each ‘repair’ fails.
“Not only is our device kinder to the patient and better for their teeth, but it’s expected to be at least as cost-effective as current dental treatments.”
A Scottish company, Reminova, is trying to find private investment to develop the technique. It hopes EAER could be available within three years if funding is available.
The company has been established from the King’s College London Dental Innovation and Translation Centre. NEWSLINK

Framework for monitoring oral cancer developed
Each year, approximately 22,000 Americans are diagnosed with oral cancer. The five-year survival rate of 40% in the U.S. is one of the lowest of the major cancers, and it has not improved in the past 40 years. “The major risk factors, tobacco and alcohol use, alone cannot explain the changes in incidence, because oral cancer also commonly occurs in patients without a history of tobacco or alcohol exposure,” remarked a team whose findings begin to develop a framework for exploiting the oral microbiome for monitoring oral cancer development, progression and recurrence.
