1300 unemployed- No scope for dentistry in J&K
Dental Surgeons Association Jammu Kashmir ( DSA –JK ) has requested the J&K CET aspirants and their parents not to opt BDS course as there is no scope in dentistry in J&K state. Dr. Asif Iqbal Chowdhary president DSA-JKsaid that there are 1300 plus unemployed dental surgeon till date and there has been no PSC recruitment from the past six years. The last PSC recruitment was advertised wide notification no. 02-psc 2008 dated 18-02-2008. He further added that there is no scope for post graduation within and outside the state. NEWSLINK

Physically challenged MDS denied Govt Job
Physically challenged Orthodontist Dr Rajalakshmi S J pleaded her case in court to fight injustice done to hear.
The government advocate — who was defending the medical education department and the principal of the Government Dental College and Research Institute on their decision not to appoint Dr Rajalakshmi S J — was at the receiving end of a series of specific queries from the judge, to which his answers were found wanting. Probiotic helps orthodontic patients
Thailand: A new study has provided additional evidence that probiotics are beneficial against a number of oral diseases. Researchers in Thailand recently found that lactobacilli in particular could help reduce levels of mutans streptococci, which can cause dental caries, especially in cleft lip and palate patients with fixed orthodontic appliances.

Coconut Oil could Treat Tooth Decay
Scientists have found that coconut oil can be used to attack the bacteria that cause tooth decay. This discovery could lead to a new generation of dental care products.
Bacteriologists have discovered that modified coconut oil can halt the growth of the bacterium Streptococcus, which is one of the major causes of tooth decay. The research, reported by News.com, was undertaken by the Athlone Institute of Technology in Ireland.
In carrying out the work, the research team looked at coconut oil, vegetable oil and olive oil and treated each with enzymes. The idea was to use the enzymes to produce chemicals that could work against bacteria. LINK
